Darren Raleigh: News

We Played the Quad Cities Festival - September 23, 2013

Aoife and I went out to the Celtic Festival and Highland Games of the Quad Cities over the weekend.  We played four sets, had a great time and met some terrific folks.  I'd never met The Beggarmen before - they sounded great and were really nice people.

Celtic Festival and Highland Games - March 1, 2013

Aoife (my main harp) and I have been invited to the Celtic Festival and Highland Games to be held this year on September 21st in Davenport, Iowa.
I'll be playing, singing and storytelling, while giant guys in plaid skirts throw heavy things about.
Don't ask - it's Scottish. ( ;-}>
But since it's a pan-Celtic festival I'll be playing Irish, Cymraeg and Manx tunes, as well as Scottish of course.
Come on out! Listen to the tunes and stories, and save me a beer for after my sets.

Performance at the Irish Music Awards - January 28, 2010

I just got back from playing at the Irish Music Awards, held at O'Malley's Pub in Weston, Missouri. It's a great venue - the event was held in the lower cellar - a structure from the 1840's that still has a full bar and great acoustics. I played a few tunes, and shared the stage with the Wild Colonial Bhoys, John Whelan, Tim Britton...had a great time!

"The Isle of the Blessed" is a stunning success! - March 18, 2008

What a great time! We expected to sell about 30 tickets preshow, with a few more at the door. The final tally was 121 tickets sold, and extra seats brought in from everywhere. The people were great, the show went fine and I couldn't buy my own whisky for the rest of the night! Made some new friends, sold some CD's...I love this town!

New concert on the Schedule! - March 15, 2008

The Isle of the Blest - A Mythic History of Ireland. I'm going to be doing a one-man Celtic Bard performance at Living History Farms in (what a cool place!) on March 15th. That's right, the Ides of March!
I'll be bringing Irish mythology, storytelling, poetry, and of course playing the Celtic harp and singing. Beer and noshies to follow.

I'm Booked for the Irish Festival! - January 5, 2008

I've been asked to play, sing, recite and whatever else I do for the Des Moines Irish Festival! I'll be doing two 45-minute shows at the Iowa State Historical Building in the Capitol Complex - St. Patrick's Day, of course!

Silverwheel is Now Downloadable! - November 13, 2007

DigStation, that digital portal for indie music on the web, has Silverwheel available for download. Once again, off the Buy tab (up top).

Silverwheel Hits the Baby! - November 9, 2007

CD Baby, that ally and friend of the independent musician, is stocking Silverwheel. You can get it from clicking on the link on the Buy page (top of this one).

Silverwheel Released! - October 28, 2007

The new CD's arrive from the Oasis CD, and I'm all over town getting the first copies in the mail to CDBaby.com (checkitout!) and to all the people that I've promised a copy. They're going to Ireland, they're going to Wales, and the Post Office is confused.
